Parker Posey Posey Parker

She has one of those names where I can never remember which part is the first and the last name.  36 minutes into “Broken English” and I’m blogging.  That can’t say much about the movie.   But its interesting enough that I’m not gonna pull the plug on it.

Blogging – catharsis or vanity?  I dunno.

I have screened “Broken English,” and give it a resounding meh. There were some plot holes which marred the continuity; however, I thought Ms. Posey’s performance was quite good, as usual. I’ve always enjoyed her work in the Chris Guest films such as “Waiting for Guffman” and “Best in Show.” Then again, I’m only a pretend film critic. More like doing a sham impersonation of a pretend film critic. Or is that film cricket? And why would anyone want to film a cricket? Out of these wet clothes and into a dry martini.

Okay – KK. So glad you got your two cents in before I actually commented on the film. But here it is. Parker P is extraordinary. Great range – gritty – all that kind of cool sound of superlatives. The plot is linear to a fault and if it wasn’t for Parker’s incredible work the main character would be difficult for me to care about. KK says the plot has holes but I think that’s just cause the director couldn’t figure out how to make this film that takes place over a few days actually last a few days. But if KK means the rather quickly tidied up ending then I have to agree. Kinda liked the music except during the scene in the french cathedral. Gena Rowlands was as great as ever but its a small role. From the DVD extras it sounds as if she got on board with the project and everything else fell into place. An odd slighly more than cameo role for Peter Bogdonavich too. I recommend watching it – ALL THE WAY THROUGH – but keep your expectations real. That’s what she said?

I did watch it all the way through. What kind of sham pretend film cricket do you take me for? The ending almost negated all that preceded it. But this is a pet peeve of mine in film: unrealistic endings which suddenly happen really bother me, and can ruin an otherwise acceptable cinematic excursion. I concur that Pete and Gina were cool in it, tho.
